August 5, 2026 · High importance · strategy

Jeff Dean (former Google Chief Scientist), Sanjay Ghemawat, Oriol Vinyals (DeepMind VP of research / Gemini technical lead), and Quoc Le (Google Brain co-founder) left Google after nearly three decades to co-found Discovery Loop, a public benefit corporation. The startup aims to automate the full experimental loop of scientific and engineering research (hypothesis → experiment → evaluation → iteration), starting with machine-learning research itself before expanding to domains such as chip design, biology, and drug discovery. Alphabet is a founding investor and Cloud partner; the seed round is led by Radical Ventures and Khosla Ventures.
