Microsoft launches enforceable National AI Safety and Privacy Standard for schools

Microsoft announced a National AI Safety and Privacy Standard that school districts can embed directly into contracts, making protections legally enforceable. The standard prohibits use of student data for model training or advertising, bans AI companion chatbots for students, requires human review of AI decisions, mandates 72-hour breach reporting, and gives districts audit and termination rights. The terms take effect for Microsoft education customers on November 1.
