Yandex shuts Vladimir data centre after Ukrainian drone attack

October 11, 2026 · Medium importance · Infrastructure

Russian technology and AI company Yandex reported that a drone attack damaged infrastructure and forced the complete shutdown of its data centre in the Vladimir region, with some services unavailable. This was the third major Yandex data centre taken offline in successive days, following earlier strikes on facilities that housed supercomputers used for the company’s AI model development. The incidents directly reduce available AI training and inference compute capacity for a leading Russian AI developer and illustrate physical vulnerability of AI infrastructure during geopolitical conflict.
