Anthropic CEO clarifies position against banning open-weights models

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei published a formal statement clarifying that the company has never advocated for a ban on open-weights models. He argued that open-weights systems without dangerous capabilities are a public good, while calling instead for chip export controls, action against industrial-scale distillation, and mandatory safety testing of all sufficiently capable models regardless of open or closed status.
