Anthropic opens research preview of Model Hardware Standard for AI agents

Anthropic launched a research preview of the Model Hardware Standard (MHS), a shared specification that allows AI agents to safely operate physical laboratory and manufacturing devices such as microscopes, liquid handlers and robotic arms. Developed in collaboration with HHMI Janelia, MHS reduces hardware integration time from weeks or months to hours or minutes and enables agents to orchestrate autonomous multi-device workflows. An early version is being shared with scientific and manufacturing partners for safety evaluation ahead of a planned open-source release.
