Anthropic shows Claude designing protein binders with high wet-lab success rates

Anthropic reported that Claude (Mythos Preview and Opus 4.8) designed protein binders against 15 targets and succeeded on 14 of them in independent wet-lab validation. Hit rates ranged from 22% to 35% depending on setup, exceeding the typical 10–15% in current protein design campaigns, with some designs matching or exceeding the best previously published affinities. Separately, Claude Opus 5 analyzed NMR and LC-MS data from raw lab files in under 25 minutes and matched the contract lab’s hydrogen counts and purity results. The work illustrates Claude’s ability to autonomously orchestrate specialized models and accelerate early stages of drug-relevant scientific workflows.
