EU expands AI Office enforcement team as AI Act transparency rules activate

The European Union unveiled an expanded AI Office enforcement team of 38 additional staff to monitor AI companies globally, including OpenAI and DeepSeek, as the AI Act’s transparency obligations prepared to take effect. The rules require clear labelling or watermarks for AI-generated chatbots and images, and cover systemic risks such as cyber threats and harmful manipulation. The Commission also launched whistleblower and compliance reporting tools, with powers to fine companies or restrict market access for non-compliance.
