Meta expands Louisiana AI data center to 5GW with $50B+ investment

Meta formally announced a major expansion of its Richland Parish (Hyperion) AI data center project from an initial 2GW plan to 5GW of compute capacity, increasing total investment to over $50 billion. This represents one of the largest single AI infrastructure commitments, including over $1B in local infrastructure upgrades and workforce programs. It materially accelerates Meta's ability to train and run large-scale open-source models through expanded U.S.-based compute resources.
