EU AI Act transparency rules for AI systems take effect
Editorial Analysis
On 2 August 2026 new transparency obligations under the EU AI Act took effect. Providers and deployers must mark certain AI-generated or manipulated content with clear labels and machine-readable marks, and users must be informed when interacting with an AI system such as a chatbot or agent. National market surveillance authorities and the European AI Office can enforce the rules with fines up to €15 million or 3% of global annual turnover.
